(Civitan) Mark Lewis looks to return to Salisbury City council

Bank executive Mark Lewis on Monday made his bid to return to the Salisbury City Council official.

Lewis, 52, previously served on the council from 2003 to 2009. He works as the market senior vice president for Fidelity Bank, which has a branch in Salisbury.

In his bid for the city council, Lewis says courageous, experienced leadership is necessary.

“We have seen significant growth in the tourism, arts and culture and entrepreneurial sectors of our economy,” Lewis said. “To continue this progress, we must continue to implement strategies that will further opportunities for our citizens to participate in this creative economy.”

He listed three priorities if elected: a pedestrian-friendly streetscape in downtown, a renewed commitment to the city’s customer services initiative and leveraging the city’s municipal fiber-optic network Fibrant to attract businesses. Social justice and equality is another topic he said is important.

In 1984, Lewis received a degree in business administration from the University of North Carolina in Charlotte. A few months after graduating, he began working for Wachovia Bank. He’s worked in the banking industry since then.

Lewis’ community activity includes being the immediate past president of Downtown Salisbury Inc., treasurer of the convention and visitors bureau and the Salisbury Civitan Club.

Lewis attends St. John’s Lutheran Church.

He lives in Salisbury with his wife Maria and 14-year old daughter.
