Yes, Salisbury, NC is home of one of the oldest and one of the largest Civitan Clubs in the world...

Proudly serving the Salisbury community continuously for MORE than One Hundred Years!

Civitan International is an organization of volunteer service clubs around the world, dedicated to helping people in their own communities. Civitans help wherever the need arises – from collecting food for a homeless shelter, to volunteering at a local retirement home, to building a playground for children with disabilities. Civitans have been helping people since the organization’s founding in 1917 by a group of Birmingham, Alabama  businessmen determined to make a difference in their community.  Our local Salisbury Club was founded by twenty-seven young men just five years later in 1922, making it the 80th local club founded and now, one of the oldest continually operating Civitan clubs in existence.

Civitan Club Celebrates 100 Years of Service to the Community

On Thursday, August 11th, the Civitan Club of Salisbury celebrated its 100th consecutive year of service to Salisbury and the surrounding areas with a Centennial Luncheon at the Salisbury Civic Center.  Over 150 members and guests attended and were treated to a fine meal and presentations of honors from the City of Salisbury and from Rowan County.  "This is just the FIRST 100 years," quipped Club President Lee Wagoner to the crowd.  The luncheon was followed by a ride to the Chestnut Hill cemetery via Salisbury's historic trolleys, where a solemn Ceremony of Remembrance was held for the twenty-seven original members of our Club who obtained our charter on August 15, 1922.  It was an eventful afternoon, and definitely one for the history books.
