SALISBURY - Dr. David Clyde Young Jr., 94, of Salisbury, passed away Monday, Nov. 6, 2017 at The Lutheran Home at Born Aug. 14, 1923 in Spencer, to the late Carrie Gobbel Young and David Clyde Young Sr., he graduated from Boyden High School, Class of 1939. Dr. Young graduated from the Medical College of Virginia Dental School. He served as a dentist in the United States Navy during World War Il.

Dr. Young was a pediatric dentist in the Salisbury area for 41 years before his retirement. He was a Charter member of the Southeastern Society of Dentistry for Children, serving on the board as VicePresident and was a member of the American Society of Dentistry for Children. Dr. Young was a lifelong member of First United Methodist Church of Salisbury where he served on the Board of Stewards and as President of the Golden Rule Sunday School Class. Dr. Young was very active in the Salisbury community. He was a member of the Salisbury Civitan Club since 1947, serving on numerous committees and as Past President and was an Honor Key recipient.

He was a past board member of ARC, a former member of the Spencer Jaycees, former Rowan County Hospice Board member, and was active in the Salis- bury-Rowan Senior Games. Dr. Young was an active member Jf the Harold B. Jarrett American Legion Post. Dr. Young loved playing golf, playing his trumpet and attending sporting events. He was a Catawba Chiefs Club member, Duke University Iron Duke member, and past member of the Board of Visitors for Livingstone College. He enjoyed playing his trumpet during Rowan County American Legion games, Catawba College sporting events and even took it to Cameron Indoor Stadium at Duke for many years and encouraged the team with pep songs from the stands. After retirement, he began what he referred to as his second career of making music. He and his second wife Libby Stone entertained in clubs and at parties for "pleasure and a bit of money at times."

Preceding him in death was his wife, Lois Rogerson Young on Oct: 30, 1988. Surviving are his children, Deborah Y. Carter and husband William "Summie" of Salisbury, Cam Y. Choiniere and husband Laurent of Pfafftown and Michael Young and wife Ellen of Winston Salem; grandchildren, Kristen C. Barber and husband Dennis, Staton S. Carter and wife Carrie, Ian Choiniere, James Carli and wife Meredith and Gina CarIi; two great-grandchildren, Corbin and Evan Barber; two step-grandchildren, Laura and Mary Burleson; and two step-great-granddaughters, Kaylin and Kinsley Burleson. Services: A memorial service will be held 11 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 9, 2017 at First United Methodist Church, officiated by Rev. Dr. Mark Conforti and Rev. William Osborne. A reception will follow in the church fellowship hall. Burial will be at Rowan Memorial Park before the funeral service. Memorials: Memorials may be made to First United Methodist Church, 217 S.
